WESTMORELAND, TN- Fairview Yellow Jackets made the long trip to take on Westmoreland High School tonight as the 1st Round of the State Playoffs began on a very cold night. Fairview last met Westmoreland hosting them at home last season in the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs. The Yellow Jackets were a 41-20 winner vs. Westmoreland last season advancing to the Quarter Finals. Fairview came surging into tonights game winning their last 5 games. The Yellow Jackets were the 5 seed taking on 4 seed Westmoreland tonight. After being down 14-0 at the half Fairview could not get anything going losing 35-6 to Westmoreland. Although it was not the result the Yellow Jackets were looking for, we are very proud of them. Next season Fairview returns most of the starters including All State QB Hunter Zimmerman whom will be a Senior, and RB Hunter Caldwell. Hunter quickly came on to the scene this season running for big yardage and scoring multiple touchdowns in playing a major role in the Yellow Jacket offensive attack. Ben Buttrey will be a Senior next year and was the heart and soul playing a major role on both offense and defense this season. The future looks bright next season. During the offseason the Yellow Jackets will anxiously await where they will end up since the TSSAA is realigning all the Districts again. Gone will more than likely be the regular opponents such as Hickman County, Lewis County, and East Hickman. Of course we really do not know where the Yellow Jackets will end up. Fairview has been one of the smallest 3A schools according to enrollment numbers compared to the other 3A schools on the TSSAA website. Although Fairview has been one of the smaller 3A schools, the Yellow Jackets are ranked an impressive 5th overall in the state in Class 3A since 2009 in number of regular and post season wins, along with a couple of deep runs in the playoffs to the Quarter Finals in 2011, and 2013. Lastly, Congratulations to Coach Hughes for going over the 50 win mark in just his 6th season coaching at FHS this year. Last weeks victory over Waverly was Coach Hughes 53rd win in his coaching career at the High School level in just his 6th season coaching at FHS. See everyone next season!!!
