WHAT A CRAZY WEEKEND... WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN: Taylor and I were going to play an electric guitar version of “Here Comes the Bride” at a pop-up wedding at Cupids arrow in San Francisco..A chance to play a fun tune at n important public monument while witnessing a lovely wedding. Quincey was in the wedding s a bridesmaid and Sandra was to be my date after the wedding WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED: We showed up to the rehearsal on Saturday to stand in our spots and get an idea of how the ceremony was going to be conducted. We had a great dinner, drinks, smiles all around. We all wake up the next morning, day of the wedding of course and Quincey gets a scary message from the bride. Apparently, the minister that was scheduled to perform the wedding suffered a motorcycle the night before. As I understand, he is in good condition, but wasnt going to be released in time. So Im thinking to myself, “Theyll probably just get another minister from the area to fill in.” I guess that was about a 600 dollar option..yikes. Then Erick had to light the fire by reminding Quincey that I happen to be an ordained minister..thanks, jerk. While driving to the city to get ready for the ceremony, Quincey texts me and tells me “Youre On.” Here I was, In the heart of the city, about to perform a wedding ceremony in front of people I really didnt know. That was a pill that took some time to swallow, but I had already parked the car, so it was too late to drive it into the ocean. After some other chaos unfolded, including a last minute parking garage practice, we somehow made it to the park on time to set up our speakers. A huge thank you to Sandra and Erick for keeping us composed and for carrying gear..you saved us! In the midst of trying to remember the song we composed and remember the script for the wedding that I could no longer look at to memorize because my phone was dead, you can see why my hair is more Grey than when I left. Then, Show time. I was about to play here comes the bride on electric guitar, set it down and walk up to the altar to officiate..seems appropriate for me, right? From there, it was all about focusing and trying to make a great scene out of something I was completely un-prepared for. I know it wasnt anything near what they probably had in mind, but we ground through it. The bride and groom did a great job of following my lead and putting up with it all. Because in the end, the magic words were spoken..and it was done. We all pulled together as a team and did our best to make it special despite the circumstances. We all have a story to tell forever now! Cheers, Everyone!
