WHAT BECAME THE NORM All of the OK-432 injections were successful. The government only allows so many of them. Zachary received all that were allowed. For the most part, the cysts in face were collapsed. There was/is one on his left side that you can still see when he turns his face a certain way. After all of the injections, his face looked extremely good. After a short time, we realized that his next major issue would be his tongue. Zacharys tongue swells up....sometimes really bad. When his tongue swells, it becomes so large that it will not fit inside of his mouth. It usually is extremely painful. He cannot talk or eat solid foods. The normal course of medicine is steroids and antibiotics. Both medicines taste like crap. Because his tongue is swollen, he has to take medicine through a straw. One of the most difficult things is that we never know how long it will stay swollen. It could be a few hours....2 days....5 days...10 days...we never know. As the first two/three years of his life went on, his tongue would swell up a few times a year. But as he approached 3, it started to swell more often and the medicine didnt seem to be doing the trick anymore. The doctor decided it was time for another surgery...
