WHAT HAPPENS IN THE USA ?... WHO KNOWS ? Apparently, the President of Madagascar is in the house but which house is he in ? Maybe he is in the Malagasy Embassy of New York, at Fort Lee, or Washington DC, or maybe in one of these famous first class hotel. Nobody knows, but for security he is in somewhere waiting for his press conference, a streaming live at the UN, his meeting with the General Secretary of the United Nations, his meeting with some business groups, why not his meeting with the Malagasy diaspora. No one is aware of the schedule apart from few persons within the Mission who are trying to avoid to reveal much more than general points. Anyway, security and maybe discretion are the main rules to enforce. In addition, for few days, he will meet with high rank officers of the department state and other development groups, not with President Obama, regarding the Africa-USA meeting in August, the AGOA and mainly other eventual bilateral cooperation, public and private. However, the President has to show a lot of resolve to regain the trust of America. No schedule is completely out regarding his trip to the Capital as the information is quite filtered, even within the Embassy. Given that, some of the leads for the last few days shows that meetings with World Bank, IMF, EXXON and many others economic entities are planned to mark the return of Madagascar to the world stage and to start new policy ties with private sectors. A charm to close the President is launched in each step in order to convince him to renew probably the mandate of some officers to deal with these new strategies. Besides, the press conference with the French radio is one of his main communication tools to inform the public about his trip to America and his work with different development groups. However, few wonder about the role of the press attached to this presidential trip. Isnit one of the principal task of the Embassy in collaboration with this press groups to organize such conference? One more time, we face an imbalance in the consideration of our own competence in front of others. In summary, a lot will be done during this trip but as usual, our outcomes will be only transmitted to the press and the public with a certain delay and sometimes less accuracy. When will be this real change in dealing with the press liberty in informing the public? Transparency is one of the main tool for a good governance Mr President as you have a lot to check during this journey and also has to pay attention to small details. By the way, you should understand why a lot of uncontrolled information are out there without confirmation. Here is one that might interest you: it seems that Mr Ravalomanana is one of your advocate to the American government, especially to EXXON too, and you might have met him somewhere in Atlanta. True or false? We dont mind for now as the media has to work hard to get a bit of information and dont criticize us for telling the least we got. We hope a real change in our dealing with information and you must be the first to initiate that change we are waiting for long.
