WHAT MANNER OF ADVOCACY According to Wikipedia, advocacy is a political process by an individual or group which aims to influence decisions within political, economic, and social institutions. Advocacy can include many activities that a person or organization undertakes including media campaigns, public speaking, commissioning and publishing of research or conducting exit polls, or the filing of an amicus brief . VoIP, as an advocacy group, is a platform created to draw the attention of government and its agencies to the criminal neglect of Igbide in particular, nay Isoko Nation and the Niger Delta in general. Through this medium, we have succeeded in sensitizing government at all levels to the deplorable conditions of infrastructure in Igbide without trading insults. It is of note that the high and the mighty in the society are members of this great forum. With the growth of membership, mostly from Igbide, there has been a gradual drift from the noble dreams and aspirations of the founders. This forum turned to where personal issues and scores are settled. Respect, which is cherished traditional custom have been thrown to the air. We no longer distinguish between elders and children, the giants and dwarfs. Everyone has become equal. In George Orwells Animal Farm, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. For years now, groups involved in advocacy work have been using the Internet to accomplish organizational goals. UNRF is a reference point, where it has succeeded in coaxing government to construct a road to Umeh worth several billions of Naira. It has been argued that the Internet helps to increase the speed, reach and effectiveness of advocacy-related communication as well as mobilization efforts, suggesting that the social media are beneficial to the advocacy community. So this is a clarion call to all to exercise restraint in what we post and return to true advocacy.
