Kaufman will draw from his book, “Peachtree Creek, a Natural and Unnatural History of Atlanta’s Watershed,” for the presentation. Beginning from the days when Indians and settlers were drawn to the area by its clean water and abundant natural resources, Kaufman profiles the transformation of the urban landscape and its effect on the watershed. Kaufman will have copies of his book available for purchase and signing. More info: (706) 629-6397 Saturday, September 14 NERA Paddle – North Chickamauga Creek (outside Chattanooga) Meet at 9 a.m./Launch at 10 a.m. – Greenway Farms – 5051 Gann Store Rd., Chattanooga Meet at Greenway Farms and paddle through the lock on the Tennessee River to the marina ramp on Chickamauga Lake. This portion of Chickamauga Creek is four (4) miles in length and is flat water with abundant wildlife. As for passing through the lock it is an extremely easy procedure. For those desiring a longer paddle, you can skip the marina ramp and continue paddling to Booker T State Park on Chickamauga Lake and return to the marina ramp for take-out. This will add another four (4) miles to your paddle. Each 4 mile leg will take approximately 2 hours with the lock taking an additional ½ to 1 hour depending upon river traffic. Rain or shine!
