WHEAT KINGS MAKE IT BACK TO BACK WINS OVER MOOSE JAW Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings completed a weekend home and home series sweep of the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory before over 3,800 fans at Westman Communications Group Place. Rihard Bukarts scored once and set up three others to pace the Wheat Kings, who improved their record to 26-7-3-1 on the season. After a scoreless opening period, the two teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the second before the Wheat Kings struck late for two goals - 77 seconds apart - to take a two goal lead to the dressing room through forty minutes of play. Moose Jaw pulled to within one with just over two minutes to play but Bukarts empty netter sealed the deal with 16 seconds left. Jayce Hawryluk - with his second in as many nights - Colton Waltz and Tim McGauley rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who outshot the Warriors 36-27. McGauley, who had his 5-game goal scoring and 12-game point scoring streaks snapped in Saturdays 3-0 win in Moose Jaw, continues to lead the club in scoring with 23 goals and 45 points in 37 games. In making his first ever start in Brandon as a Wheat King, former Saskatoon Blades netminder Alex Moodie stopped 25 shots. The Wheat Kings will be back in action Tuesday night when the Prince Albert Raiders pay their first visit of the season to Brandon. Following a New Years Day game in Saskatoon, the Wheat Kings will then return home on Saturday for a game against the Calgary Hitmen. Saturdays game will feature the annual Wheat Kings Family Skate Day, presented by 880 CKLQ, 94.7 Star FM and The Home Depot. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates and cameras to the game and join the players on the ice after the game for a free public skate.
