WHEN THE QUEEN FLIES AWAY THE DRONES ARE LEFT TO DIE They are called guards; old guards, new guards; crawlers In a collapsing dictatorship they are the blind obedient pets Guards with puffed out chests of self importance taking pictures of themselves guarding rusting gates Guards of a dictatorship; small minded people with delusions of grandeur believing they are intricate to the collapsing dictatorship’s ongoing maintenance of rule What fools! Guards, their very existence in a collapsing dictatorship is not to protect; defend The guards are there to only slow down the forces of justice Give the dictator and the inner circle time to escape; escape to a safe haven far across the seas while the bulk of the guards are slaughtered Those guards that survive they’re put on trial for the dictator’s crimes and punished for the rest of their lives Old guards, new guards are all stupid dead guards in the end
