WHILE I am a lot thankful to my beloved BICOL UNIVERSITY for backing up my scholarship application, it was indeed an honor on my part to be CHOSEN AS ONE AMONG THE MANY, to represent Philippines based on my career portfolio on community media practice for 17 years,15 years of media teaching plus passing essay items in the application and other rigid requirements of the scholarship; all things being equal I also owe much the inspiration to my colleague in the communication profession, DR. Ricky Abalena, of West Visayas State University,Iloilo, who was the 1st to represent the country in this prestigious scholarship program by the Department of State of United States of America. His challenge and objective evaluation of my accomplishments and contributions to the academe made him believe that I can make it.Thanks a lot, sir ricks coz I MADE IT TOO! I am now a certified alumna of the Study for the United States Institute for Scholars in Journalism and Media. Accomplishing some tasks during the program; I now also acknowledge Msgr. Conrado Beloso, whose ready response and insights on the peace conflict involving the Philippines, crystallized some issues needed in my case presentation; the home-based issue that temporarily rocked my focus while accomplishing my specific tasks in the scholars activity and the worries of the typhoon Glenda taught me lessons in standing up for my own principles in the battlefield of life. NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. YOU teach people how to treat you. What you teach comes from how you see life. And how you see life comes from who you are. - John Maxwell. Thanks too for this one of the two congratulatory streamers initiated by the department-based organization of my college, which greeted me with warm welcome and offered a good feeling of relief from that thing of the past that made me sad for a while while away from home. TODAY,August 6,2014, is a historical day. A celebration of independence from a challenging story 13 years ago on the very same day,August 6. Thanks God, I am free! I am free....the same statement i could well relate with from Martin Luther King, a civil rights fighter, who also experienced unfair treatment/segregation from among the White People. I would always remember your legacy of non -violent means when we visited your sanctuary in the state of Atlanta, with my SUSI family.
