WHIPLASH from Sharmagne Leland-St.John-Sylbert - Alittlehawk@aol Harvey, will you please get the message out about my friend screen writer Denis ONeills first novel WHIPLASH: When the Vietnam War rolled a hand grenade into the Animal House. Denis wrote the original screenplay for The River Wild, which garnered Meryl Streep an Academy Award nomination. He also wrote the screenplay for A Shot at Glory the Robert Duval film about a soccer coach. Anyone who lived through the days leading up to and the aftermath of the December 1, 1969 Vietnam Draft Lottery will appreciate this poignant, funny, wonderful coming of age novel. Denis evokes the 1960s as precisely, wittily, and poignantly as F. Scott Fitzgerald captured the Jazz Age. He was one of the first Dartmouth seniors to graduate with a diploma and a draft number. (Animal House started out at Dartmouth.)
