WHO KILLED JOHN “The man died in him, who keeps SILENCE in the face of oppression” Wole Soyinka This question is a veritable question that one ought to reflect on, not necessarily to answer. The bible epistle presents to us the sorry death of John the Baptist who was killed not out of his own dealings, but out of human wickedness and hard heartedness. Who killed John? Herod, Herodias, Herods daughter, soldiers. All this persons are true to be said to be the major players in the death of John. But are we not forgetting some persons who also played their role in the death of John. Think clearly before reading on. If this group of persons had retorted to the herods proclamation for Johns head to be brought, John would have been saved, if they had condemned herodias want and also rebuked herods daughters ungodly request, John would have been saved. But they kept SILENT. The GUEST for that party kept silent at that act by the herods family. MORAL LESSON: In life we meet so many examples of oppression and injustice in our daily life, because often times it has nothing to do with us, or our family or friends, we keep silent. People die emotionally and physically not because of any epidemic or physical disasters; rather there is no person to speak for them. People’s privileges’ and rights are taken from them because we at the position to talk keep silent. Our work is to talk, and we are called to it, until we start talking the man in us keeps dying.
