WHO SAID THAT CATALONIA IS NOT A COUNTRY? Someone said me that the difference between Scotland and Catalonia is that Catalonia is not a country. But who said that Catalonia is not a country? Basque Country is a country. Catalonia is a country. Actually was one of the 3 catalan countries, a kind of confederation. Catalonia and Scotland are nations without state. They both are exactly the same. Catalonia today is administrativelly a region in Spain since 3 centuries ago after our defeat on September 11th of 1714. Scotland is administrativelly a region inside the macrostructure of UK. Catalonia is not an state. Scotland is not an state. Scotland and Catalonia are nations without state integrated in an state. UK and Spain, both countries, or both states(its only a vocabularys question) are plurinationals, are composed by nations with their own identity, language, etc. But not always was so. Catalonia has its own parliament much before England. We had our own constitutions that every king had to swear. Catalonia today is a region. But at the same time is a country. All it depends of the point of view. From the spanish point of view we are a region. From our, we are a country(as synonim of nation not as synonim of state). Luckilly from Scottish, English, Welsh or Irish point of view....Scotland is its own country. But for Westminster you are only a region of their macrostructure. Its a question of nomenclature, not a question of categories. A question of labels and tags. Today the Spanish treatment towards Catalonia is as if we were one more of its regions, but this actually is a recent and artificial invention. They call to this regions autonomous comunities. Catalonia, Basque Country and Galicia are considered historical comunities. That is a subterfuge to avoid say explicitelly that we are countries(nations). The rest of autonomous comunities, are actually part of what once was Castillas kingdom. Since our defeat in Succession War, in 1714, Philip the 5th of Bourbon, as french absolutist king, enforced a castilian matrix to the catalan countries(Catalonia, Valencias kingdom, Mallorcas kingdom) that was not part of Castilla. If you see also France they had structured their country by departaments. But this doesnt mind that they dont have nations(countries) inside. For instance they have a piece of the Basque Country, and another of Catalonia. (PS: if you want study Spains history dont ask to an Spanish. Go directally to British Enciclopedy, or an external historian because Spain is a negationist country). youtube/watch?v=irlH3PJhR0g
