WHO WAS OBAFEMI AWOLOWO? - early in life, Nigeria Chief Obafemi Awolowo who journened home at age 78 a peasant son, worked as a clerk, trader, newspaper reporter. He organized trade unions and 1947, wrote a significant pamphlet, PART TO NIGERIA FREEDOM. - After founding the Action Group and becomeing its first President, Awolowo took on the role of western region premier in 1954. - In this capacity he strive to improve education, social services and Ariculture. Adopting more social views after Nigeria gained independence in 1960, he later led the Unity Party of Nigeria. - Chief Awolowo, so respected Nigerias constitution he tried to overthrow those he felt had violated it.
