WHO WE ARE: A couple months back I did a Who We Are post about our company. While it gave a general overview of what our company strives to provide (a fun and safe outdoor recreational experience), it didnt fully answer the question of WHO we are. Who a company is, what it does, and how it does it comes from the top. I was out visiting our guests in the park yesterday and ran into the BIG MAN - our owner, our President, the guy at the top of the company ladder with the corner office (Note: He doesnt actually have an office, but his wife does and its full of fun toys for their grandchildren). Back on topic... HE WAS CLEANING THE RESTROOMS IN OUR CAMPGROUND. That is our boss. That is the working blood, and sweat, and leader of our company. He leads by example and is the epitome of the no job is beneath you attitude. If youve visited our park, you may never guess that the man you see on the trash run each morning is our President, or that the older gentleman scuttling across the street to answer Canoe Livery phones on a busy day has taken this company from 50 boats to 1,000. Youd never know that the grandpa in a staff shirt corralling 4 grandchildren and a dog onto a golf cart to both entertain them and instill in them a strong work ethic is the same man who has done that exact same thing with hundreds of employees over the years. That is why season after season, our guests come back to us. Its a top-down approach to running a park - do the job and do it right and people will come and enjoy it. Season after season, our employees return - invest in your employees and youll be making a strong company investment. Our leader, our owner, knows this. He treats us to cookouts every Sunday as a Thank You for a hard weeks work. He takes us on company outings for experiences that we may never have a chance to get otherwise - sailing, spelunking, white water rafting... The list goes on and on for what this man has done for our company, our community, and our guests. I hope you, as a friend to our park, have enjoyed reading this follow-up on Who We Are and have smiled a little hearing the background of the person who made us. If youre in our park and see Doug driving around the trash truck or scrubbing the bathroom floors, make sure to give him a holler and a Thanks! As for me, this may very well be my last post... because Doug is definitely not one to toot his own horn, and may fire the one who chose to toot it anyways. ;)
