WHO will soon declare Nigeria Ebola-free Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, yesterday said the World Health Organisation (WHO) will soon officially declare the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) over in Nigeria. This is because Nigeria has not recorded any new case of the virus since August 31, 2014. A statement by Mrs. Ayotunde Adesugba, the Director Information, stressed that Nigeria has been commended nationally and internationally for its robust and effective national response to the EVD. The Minister of Health, will declare open the High Level Meeting of Stakeholders on the EVD at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, on October 9, 2014. The meeting which will attract experts and stakeholders from across the nation is being convened under the auspices of the Treatment Research Group (TRG) on the EVD. She further said that experts will review the current national efforts, available resources and develop a roadmap for research on Ebola and other emerging diseases among Nigerians, both in the country and in the Diaspora. According to her, the outcome of the meeting will help to galvanise support on a common agenda among experts and stakeholders, including the organised private sector, that share similar concerns on EVD and other diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa and globally. It would be recalled that on August 4, 2014, as part of the National Response to the EVD outbreak in Nigeria, the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, inaugurated the TRG on the Disease which immediately begun work based on its terms of reference.
