!! WHOA!! FOLKS!! WHOA!!...Wow!! I only have read the FIRST COUPLE OF PARAGRAPHS of the BOOKs FORWARD, written by retired US Army General Tommy Franks, who was the supreme commander over Iraq and Afgan, in the very initial invasions, as THIS IS WHAT he concisely phrased: ...`In War, you do no MANAGE soldiers up a hill under fire. You LEAD them. Although the stakes are much higher in war, than in any other leadership arena, the challenges a general experiences on the battlefield are essentially the same as a coach faces on the football field, or on a basketball court, or a CEO in the competitive marketplace. ...You must have a strategic vision, and you must communicate that to your people, (under your charge.) ...You must inspire and motivate the troops, display exemplary character; and rock-solid competence under fire, and be tactically aggressive. ...And you must love your troops.. ...Pat Williams has spent a lifetime studying and applying the above principles of leadership in the sports world. In fac, the very existence of the Orlando Magic, a team he cofounded in 1986, is a tribute to his leadership skills--and the seven leadership priinciples, he teaches in this book. They are vision, communication, people skills, character, competence, boldness, and a serving heart... ...America desperately needs quaility leadership. ...We need people of vision. We need people who can communicate and implement that vision. We need people who will boldly take on the challenges of (all the tommorows) in the future, and who will serve as role models of personal character and competence. ...Above all, we need leaders who are committed to serving others, not just their own egos and selfish interests... ...Today more than ever (in our nations history and hertiage) we need quality leadership. Some think of leadership as taking charge, bossing folks around, intimidating others to get things done. ...Well, it is true that leadership involves giving orders and holding people accountable, but theres a lot more critical and valuable components to quality leadership skills than being the boss... ...Youll find leadership lessons...on every page of Pat Williams book: Leadership Excellence. ...He knows leadership backwards and forwards, from taking charge to taking risks, to taking care of your troops. ...His book is fascinating, and a very readable book, filled with excellent (learning moments) stories, filled with life lesson-stories -which will grab your heart and wont let go as you learn teaching-moments. ...Its a practical book, filled with bullet-point principles that will impact your leadership life, from the very first chapter. ...So, let me give you an assignment: Read this book--and really learn to lead your troops. General Tommy Franks, October 2011.. WOW!! Impressive for sure -as Im holding Pat Williams book, eager to wade in --and through its content and context for Leadership Excellence learned..:-)
