WHY ASKING PEOPLE TO RENT THE INTERVIEW IS NOT PLAYING INTO THE - TopicsExpress

WHY ASKING PEOPLE TO RENT THE INTERVIEW IS NOT PLAYING INTO THE HANDS OF SONYS PR - Let me explain the economics of the situation. The average motion picture in Hollywood costs somewhere around $60 million to make and market. To stand any chance of recouping at all, the opening domestic box office needs to be at least about $20 million dollars. The Interview opened at about $1 million dollars. ONE. My sense is that Sony has already written the box office roll out off. They may, over an extended period of time, come close to recouping in ancillary markets, over the course of many years. But the hack is not helping with the bottom line - which is making money. So when I recommend people to watch it, as someone well educated about the motion picture business, I understand Sony does not stand a chance of profiting off of this. Rather, I only want one thing, and that is for the world to understand that the American people will not have a foreign force telling them what they can and cannot see. Unfortunately, the hack was something of a success. Only a few theaters (Sony would normally release to at least 2,000 which is called a wide release) showed this. Even if the movie sucked and had horrible word of mouth, it would have opened at over $10 million easily. When anyone has tried to get Americans to rent the movie online, to send a message, most Americans are only concerned with whether or not they will be entertained. Look at what the WWII generation was willing to do for America, to protect our freedom - and then look at us. SHAME: https://youtube/watch?v=mkWWgkFfBX4
