WHY CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP IS HEALTHY FOR NIGERIA On February 14, 2015, Nigerians will be going to the polls to elect a New or retain the old president. Why do people like me clamour for a change of leadership at the center? First, civilised societies, like the US, still topple the party in power, just so they could prove that sovereignty belongs to the people. In Nigeria, however, a single political party has held sway since return to democracy in 1999. The effect? Impunity! Of the highest order, cover up, incompetence, collapsed institutions and infrastructure and above all, massive looting! If you watch closely, youll discover that the people have had no say ever since and their lives have not improved, to say the least! The PDP, happy that the opposition was scattered, had boasted it would rule for 60 years! In 15 years, Nigerians have complained about virtually everything, constantly giving another person the chance under the same party, but alas, their hopes have been dashed! They now pay more for electricity they dont consume, board trains at N750, pay more for fuel, diesel and kerosene, sleep with their two eyes open and exist under the fear of the unknown. The government, seemed particularly unpertubed, and having all the apparatus of state at its disposal and conscious of no virile opposition, carried on business as usual. Today, the opposition has formed a coalition and are ready to change the way things are done. Shall we throw the chance away or try them? The choice is yours! ABIOLA OLATUNJI IBRAHEEM
