WHY DO WOMEN LEAK URINE? WHICH CONTINENCE MECHANISM(S) FAIL(S)? IUGA Dublin Author Block: K. BAESSLER, B. JUNGINGER; Pelvic Floor Ctr. Charité Univ. Hosp., Berlin, Germany. Abstract Body: Objective The aim of this study was to assess which known continence mechanisms (urethral closure pressure=UCP,bladdernecksupport,BNandpuborectalismuscle(PR)stiffness,pelvicfloorpre- contraction=PFpreC) fail during provoked stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Background We know that the pelvic floor muscle (PF) precontracts before the intraabdominal pressure (IAP) increases (1). We also know that incontinent women may have lost this PFpreC (2). Furthermore, it is established that both maximal UCP and BN stiffness are important factors that maintain continence (3). However, these continence mechanisms have not been assessed concurrently in standing women at the time of leakage. Methods We recruited 35 consecutive women with demonstrable SUI aged 31-77 years (median 49) and 18 continent women as controls aged 21-52 years (median 34; p
