WHY I LOVE PHILIPPIANS CHAPTER 4 Philippians 4:23 ‘The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.’ My dearly beloved friend, I rank Philippians chapter 4 as one of the most love to read portions of scripture. Why is that? This chapter tells me what I must be doing daily in the Lord and this chapter just about sums up the daily Christian life. Shall we look at in detail what I am talking about? What does Philippians chapter 4 tell us to be doing always and every time? 1) Philippians 4:4 ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!’ – Yes beloved we must always be rejoicing. Why? because the One who is in us is greater than all that is in the world (1 John 4:4) and with Him nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37) as He is the One who created the World (Colossians 1:16) and He put everything we see in the Universe in its place (Job 38:5-41) and here is the best thing He is our Father (Luke 11:2) and our Friend (John 15:15). So beloved there is no room for fear, anxiety or doubt in our life, we rejoice in the Lord daily because we have someone who is GREAT watching over us. 2) Philippians 4:5 ‘Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.’ – How must I live daily? I must reflect the Master’s love, mercy and compassion daily amongst all people. Yes I must daily be a walking, talking Jesus reflecting Holy Spirit filled person full of love and compassion. Like I always say you will win more people for the Lord by walking the talk rather than talking the talk only. 3) Philippians 4:6-7 ‘Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ – When in doubt, when problems arise, when situations crop up, when decisions have to be made there is only one thing to do and that thing is the best thing to do – get down on your knees and pray. Yes prayer is power (James 5:16) and when you pray His peace (John 14:27) fills you and brings you prosperity and victory. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God. 4) Philippians 4:8-9 ‘Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.’ – When I decide to live a life pleasing to the Lord and walk righteously before Him, His presence is always with me. Yes when the presence of the Lord is with you like how Daniel and Esther won favour and honour, wherever we go we will win favour and honour. Hence to keep the presence of the Lord with me always, I must be living daily to please the Lord Jesus. 5) Philippians 4:10-12 ‘But I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content; I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. – I must daily be content with the blessings I have already received from the Lord. I must never complain. I must never grumble. I must only thank Him and praise Him for His grace. Yes the Lord of the seed time is also the Lord of the harvest. Inside that small seed resides the big trees we see all around. Hence from this small blessing the Lord will bring forth the overflow in His time. We do not stagnate with the Lord as John 1:16 says we receive grace for grace. Yes as Psalm 23:6 says surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. Hence He will keep adding to the blessings you have already received in line with the plan He has for your life. You might be doing a small ministry, small business, small job now but the Lord is One who takes people from glory to glory. 5 years down the line He is going add more to that and 5 years after that even more to that and like that He will keep on adding and all you will do is look back and say ‘Look what the Lord has done for me.’ Amen to that. 6) Philippians 4:13 ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ – Nothing makes me nervous. Nothing makes me fearful. Nothing makes be scared. Why? Because when the Lord is with me (Joshua 1:5) I can do all things because it is He who gives me strength. Hence I am not afraid to face an exam, I am not afraid to face an interview, I am not afraid to face the devil, I am not afraid to face persecution. I am not afraid of anything at all. I am bold as a lion because of Jesus Christ who lives in me. 7) Philippians 4:14-19 ‘Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress. Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. Indeed I have all and abound. I am full having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleased to God. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches glory by Christ Jesus.’ – When I give to the Lord and when I partner in the spreading of the gospel, the Lord in return shall meet all my needs miraculously. Yes beloved when we give to the Lord with a genuine and thankful heart, the Lord blesses that seed we sow and returns to us a harvest. So my beloved friend, now you know why I love to read this chapter because it tells me what I should be doing daily. Yes this is the Christian life. These seven things must be part and parcel of our daily life. Then we will truly receive all the good things the Lord has in store for us. God bless you (Romesh Daniels).
