WHY I WILL NOT RIDE THE ANTI-BINAY BANDWAGON Fr. Ranhilio Aquino-Callangan Dean, San Beda College of Law These are my reasons: 1. Senate is wasting legislative time. While the pretext given for the investigation against the Binay family members is process in aid of legislation, I have yet to know what legislation is contemplated. There are limits to Senates powers. Conducting investigations of supposed crimes is not one of Senates powers. Courts conduct ocular inspections; chambers of the Legislature, only when such inspection is clearly for the purposes either of oversight or legislation. Investigating ill-gotten wealth, graft and corruption, plunder is not what we elect legislators for! If this is the job they want to do, they should apply to be prosecutors of DoJ, not senators or congressmen! OURS IS A GOVERNMENT OF ENUMERATED POWERS. 2. This government has exhibited execrable hypocrisy in respect to wrong-doing or allegations thereof. While allegations of wrong-doing on the part of PNoy allies are quickly swept under the rug and occluded, those who do not march to PNoys beat or are seen to be threats to the Aquino hegemony are hounded to death. 3. This government has ruthlessly cut down its enemies. It caused Ombudsman Gutierrez to resign. It ousted so many appointees by virtue of EO No. 2, categorizing them all as midnight appointees, it impeached a Chief Justice by buying the votes of senators, it has caused the prosecution and detention of senators not on the Yellow Side, but has instantly proclaimed the innocence of Purissima, Soliman, de Lima, and presidential relatives and kin involved in the Rychter accusation. It is hypocritical of this government to hound the VP for the very same offenses that many of its allies have successfully concealed. 4. The purpose of the present televised-media-covered spectacle that we get from Senate IS NOT the truth. So, please, stop bastardizing the truth and claiming that it is the end of these charade. The building, the holdings, etc. were all there long before 2014! In fact, most of the supposed offenses committed by VP Binay were supposedly perpetrated before he was elected VP. It is clear that he is hounded now to destroy his chances at the presidency. IT IS THIS ATTEMPT AT RAILROADING THE RESULTS OF THE 2016 ELECTION THAT I MOST DETEST, and that will be true whether the candidate is Binay or Pokwang or Aling Dionisia! IT IS ALSO THE HYPOCRISY THAT TURNS ME OFF because many of those striking an inquisitorial pose and playing the role of crusader for morality and truth have profited in various manners from wrong-doing, among them, receiving DAP for the purpose of wrongfully convicting a high official of state in an impeachment trial! NO, I WILL NOT RIDE THE BAND-WAGON!
