WHY INDEPENDENCE PRAISE? The Organizing Committee heartly - TopicsExpress

WHY INDEPENDENCE PRAISE? The Organizing Committee heartly welcomes all those who have positively responded to the invitation to attend this programme. Independence Praise 2014 is the sixth in the series. There are some who wish to question the rationale behind this event. This is normal because it takes time for innovations to command acceptance. Those who have been deprived of freedom can tell the difference between liberty and bondage. The importance of this is best captured in Leviticus 25:10. Freedom is the inalienable right of every human being as given by the creator Himself. But some people have been denied this by others. By the grace of God, all that it took Nigeria to attain independence was a debate initiated by Chief Anthony Enahoro on the floor of the Federal Parliament in Lagos. This was followed by conferences in Lancaster and Marlborough houses in London. The departure of the British from Nigeria was so smooth that it is on record that the wife of the last Colonial Governor General, Lady Robertson, broke down (in tears) when their ship lifted anchor. Such a peaceful transition was not experienced by our brothers in some other African countries. God spared this country the bloodletting and destruction that followed agitations for independence in Algeria, Kenya, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. The exit of the French from Guinea was peaceful but it made that country destitute. At this very moment, the people of Western or Spanish Sahara are crying for the same independence which has not only eluded them for so long but is taking a toll on their lives. In addition to this, Nigeria has been spared the catastrophic effects of natural disasters which ravage other countries around the world. It is in appreciation of Gods special favour, so freely received by us in this country that the current Field administration (The Apostolic Church, Maritime Field Nigeria) has set aside this day as one of thanksgiving to the Almighty God. We cannot buy freedom but like the lone leper in the Bible who returned to his Healer, we say: Thank you, Father, the Author of our liberty.
