WHY NIGERIANS MUST EMBRACE HER ETHNIC NATIONALITY BY FASEESIN - TopicsExpress

WHY NIGERIANS MUST EMBRACE HER ETHNIC NATIONALITY BY FASEESIN BRIGHT Going by history,Nigeria is said to pre exist the Oct 1,1960 Independence rather, the 1914 plays a prominence in determining the existence of Nigeria with respect to its Almagamation wherein the Southern and the Norther Protectorate were mixed, bind(ed) or malgamated to make one state.Hence the actual date will make us a 100years of nations in Nation with varieties of language, ethnic belief, cultural diversity and a host of others.Whether as civilians or under Military Promulgation,we are assumed to have lived as one indivisible and indissoluble state as provided for in the 1999 constitution. But more often than not,it is also important that we x -ray the features that have held us backward or stunted our growth...and the need for patience on our part as Nigerians. However,I will not also make room or accommodate or make excuse for failure on the part of our leaders who have been given the opportunity but failed or circumstances maligned, denied or crippled their good intentions(if they had any?).Which ever way it goes,it is also important that we mention the danger and the interrupted cancer called Military. In all, while writing a thesis on Nigeria My Countrya work to be published soon.I stumble @the need to decipher our error and match same with our victory perhaps we could do a test analysis justapox-ing our success against our failure and why we must exercise caution to ensure on our part, solidarity, ethnic similarity, one ness, and unity in diversity. Now,it is categorically affirmed that instead of celebrating 55years of Independence of self rule and governance,we can only lay claim to 26years as Oct 1st beckons. The analysis is simple...Nigeria got her independence in 1960 and it was interrupted or there was an interregnum of the Juntas,Military Incursion that lasted from 1966-1979 and again, from 1983-1999 with Abdulsalam handing over to Obasanjo who is no different from a military thus,by extention, the military has enjoyed a stay in power for almost 4decade out of the 5decades that marks our birthday... Obasanjo like I said was no different from a military who was under a clout and clothing of a civilian in 1999-2007 as the nations democratically elect president but like the yorubas will say in their parlance(ko si ba ti se efon bolo ti ko ni run igbe)interpreted to mean...no much effort applied to change the smell of a bad foliage or a green vegetable leaf(whether you cook am or u keep am,e go dey smel). That typifies Olusegun Obasanjo Aremu of Ogun State who did not see judiciary as the last resort to his misdemeanour to the extent that he politicised the sanctity of this esteemed profession and starved them many times when they had wanted to challenge his authority.Obasanjo, finding power too sweet, re applied to demystify the constitution and do a personal re draft to suit his appetite and perhaps do a life president as he approached the hallow chambers for extention of his tenure to serve three(3)terms..(Isnt this extreme greed?)to the detriment of our growing democracy but ofcourse, those with the right conscience stood vehemently against such ugly demands that caused a friction and injured Obasanjos further attempt to steer the ship of Nigeria. Thus,29years added to 8years will give an approximate figure of 37years.Hence,Nigerians only felt a relieve by the election of Musa Yar dua who fell to the cold hands of death. It is imperative to state however that Musa Yar adua emergence was also stylishly Obasanjos involvement hence we say plus 3years to make 40years.... After the death of Musa Yar dua who is assumed to have done well but who also firmly repealed the electoral process that emerged him the president in 2008,Musa Yar dua insisted that their must be an electoral reform and for the 1st time ,the constitution,1999 was amended subject to electoral matters which also lead consequently to the 2010/2012 amendment (I stand to be corrected). If Jonathan for reason of death replaced Yar dua in 2012 and by the support of Obasanjo who is interpreted in my hypothesis to mean military,we can also add the numbers of years he,Jonathan will spend and if limited to this first term,it will mean 5years added to 40years equals 45years of Military interregnum either by self or in proxy.By self will mean or is defined as men who wore the uniform and enforced Decree;by proxy will mean Obasanjo,a military man influencing the emergence of although civilians but his involvement as to making them and sometimes controlling them has re defined the civilians without Decree and not on Uniforms to mean Military by extention. With the above hypothetical analysis,a hypothesis subject to critique,it may be safe to assert that out of our 55years of Independence,Nigerians have only benefitted a self governance for only 9years? If 9years is assumed by inference to be the only self rule we had which was perhaps between 1983 and 1999 ,shall it be just or would it be justify to expect the goods in democracy? How else can we proud of our own system as a democracy?I will opine that subsequent political emergence into offices as democrat, elected not rigged in must however bear the coloration of the people and the absence of some military who by extention until tomorrow may still desire to promulgate Decree... It is unfortunate that our military system or structure is fast assuming the look of a civilian ladder, every man who was in the uniform with a military training all wishes to be civilians in democracy irrespective of the background and orientation the birth us differently...We must therefore, allow the profession in militocracy remain on the side of military expertise and offer reasonable advice either as a senior military personal to officers below him who are still in active service than jump into politics only to pretend a look that all is well as a military yesterday but today,a civilian? I therefore suggest hitherto that a republic of military expert be created by an act where these men would do professional service to protect our sovereignty and administer security advices and caution to we as Nigerians and other neigbouring countries who may need our aids and support.I further state in clear terms that no military should be promoted into democracy for the time being unless and if only such fellow have been examined,re examined over time and this period is subject to determination.... Conclusively,we may say that our democracy have not been put to test adequately and Nigerian must take solace in this rude, annoying and grievous but true analysis of what we suggest to be as a country. We can also triumph without inhibiting the unity that binds us,we can be one Nigeria exercising some patience to ensure we all get the best from this country but while we do all these,we shall not also spare civilians whose intent is to milk us dry, leverage on our ignorance to project himself or his clan...We shall together resist men of shaddy characters in our polity and banish them if possible when guilty of especially corruption...Perhaps,I meant severe punishment or prosecutive measure that would avoid further mistake or intention... I submit that Nigeria is too fragile and her democracy requires some calm for it to grow. Those hitting the politics are likely to doom us if care is not taken hence,we must be vigilant, careful and diligent as we match to the polls come 2015!
