[WHY OKOROCHA SACKED CABINET] --------------------------- Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, yesterday fired all commissioners and advisers in his government, in his first dissolution of the state executive council in two years. The governor directed the affected former government officials to hand over to the permanent secretaries and the chief of staff before tomorrow. Although Okorocha did not give reasons for the dissolution of the cabinet, Daily Sun gathered that the action had been in the works for some weeks, as the governor wants to inject new blood in the government. A reliable source in the Government House, stated: “The dissolution is long overdue, as most of the commissioners and political aides have not brought new innovations and Governor Okorocha is aware of the complaints of the people over issues of slow pace of policy implementation. The governor wants to inject new blood and competent hands to run the administration in the next two years.” Daily Sun gathered that the dissolution of the state executive council might not be unconnected with the birth of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was gathered that leaders of APC agreed that cabinets in the states governed by the parties that merged should be made up of members across the parties. Sources said Okorocha might include members of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the new cabinet. Speaking on the dissolution of the cabinet, one of the affected commissioners, who did not want to be quoted, revealed that he and his former colleagues were stunned by the sudden development, as they had no inkling of the governor’s plan. He stated: “Although we understand it is part of re-engineering of the system by bringing fresh hands on board, in line with the government’s rescue mission agenda, we never had the least suspicion that our jobs will be terminated today.” “We officially opened the new exco chambers today (yesterday) and were just starting the day’s business when the governor congratulated us and announced the dissolution of the cabinet. We are indeed, grateful to him and the entire Imo people for the opportunity given to us to serve in this capacity.” Meanwhile, intense lobbying has commenced, as some of the sacked commissioners and political leaders in the state were seen flocking around the office of the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Anwuka, in apparent bid to win their sympathy and support.
