WHY PRESIDENT JONATHAN WILL BE RE-ELECTED IN 2015 PDP WILL CAPTURE SOME STATES IN THE SOUTH-WEST 1. President Jonathan is a kind-hearted man who negotiated Amnesty and stopped the looming insurgency in the Niger Delta. Unlike his predecessor who used military might to destroy communities at the slightest provocation. It is the same olive branch he has extended to Boko Haram but no Northern Leader has owned up Boko Haram so you cannot give Amnesty to a ghost. The continued existence of Boko Haram shows that the Northern leaders have failed. 2. President Goodluck Jonathan is a Reformer in all sense of the word. Since 1960, he is the only President that has touched on the issue of subsidy, which his predecessors saw as a no go area because they patronize and buy-up the Independent Marketing outfits. President Jonathan is carrying out electoral Reforms, Power Sector Reforms, Restructuring the Civil Service for efficiency and effectiveness and relevance. Most of those affected by the Reforms are not ganging up against President Jonathan’s re-election. First they fund Boko Haram to distract the attention of Government. Secondly, at the slightest excuse, they incite the youths against the Federal Government and thirdly, they want to demonize the PDP by concocting a still born party called APC – made up of strange bed-fellows. 3. President Jonathan is very patriotic. He is from the Niger Delta and precisely from Bayelsa State but the Niger Delta has not attracted real development like other parts of the Country. If he were a Regional President, he would have completed the East-West Road with a supersonic speed but he follows due process. While the South-South people are angry that he is not developing the Region, I see his move as a patriotic one. He is President of Nigeria after all and cannot be diminished to be a Regional Leader, 4. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is loved because of his message of TRANSFORMATION. Some people think transforming a nation suffering from five decades of cumulative decay is an easy task. Those who have that mindset should ask Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, the late leader of the Bolivarian Revolution Hugo Chavez, Nelson Mandela and other reformers. Transformation requires attitudinal Change in ourselves, in our collective psyche, in our way of doing things, in our bureaucracy, and in the way we deal with others. Transformation is painful and like a pregnant woman, we cannot because of the pains we bear forbid to deliver a child. President Jonathan’s Transformation Programme is taking us somewhere and we are making a steady progress. 5. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is interested in the future of our children. He does not have this EAT-ALL-NOW attitude. This is why he created the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority will immensely contributing to strengthening our fiscal framework, by institutionalizing savings of our commodity-related revenues. With this mechanism in place, we will avoid the boom and bust cycles, and mitigate our exposure to oil price volatility. 6. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is the only President that is working towards the divestment of our economy. The major plank of Jonathan’s economic transformation agenda is agriculture. At no time in the history of this nation has the Federal Government invested so much in agriculture. This is done to secure the future of the nation in a post crude–oil era. 7. JONATHAN IS ALSO A REFORMER IN THE PETROLEUM SECTOR: He initiated the Petroleum Industry Bill and signed the Local Content Bill into an Act. The NASS is yet to pass the PIB bill because of political interests. 8. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is a human rights crusader. During his administration, we have had less incidents of gagging the Press or muzzling free Speech. With the popularization of the internet free speech and freedom of expression is a given. He is a beneficiary of the Social Media hence he signed the Freedom of Information Bill into an Act, which should now be domesticated by all States of the Federation for effective operation. 9. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is waging a relentless war against Poverty. He has created so many opportunities for the youths through various initiatives such as YouWIN, Scholarships, Youth Entrepreneur Programmes. If all States replicate the efforts of the Federal Government, unemployment will be drastically reduced. 10. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is s promoter of sports. Our victory at the CAF Cup in South Africa redounds to his resolve, moral courage and reorganization of the Sports Ministry. HE WON THE CUP. 11. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is making colossal strides in the Aviation Industry. The expansion and restructuring of 14 international airports is a feat no administration has achieved for the past 40 years. There is a Revolution going on in the aviation industry and no one can feign ignorance of these monumental changes doing on. 12. PRESIDENT JONATHAN is serious with ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE. A total of 651km of roads was paved in bituminous layers in 2012; a total of 32 Highway projects were completed in 2012. Following the recent effects of floods in some parts of the country, the administration intervened by constructing new bridges and re-instating washed out embankments. The Ministry of Works on the order of President Jonathan unveiled Operation Safe Passage, a programme aimed at recovering deplorable sections of major roads in the country to ameliorate the sufferings usually experienced by road users during festive seasons. Under this programme, key roads in the six geo-political zones of the country, were rehabilitated. 80 projects prioritized in 2012 two have been completed, three are over 90 percent completed, five are over 80 percent completed, eighteen are between 50-79 percent complete while the rest are in different stages of completion. The radical intervention by the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme SURE-P in the road sector in 2012 resulted in accelerated work on the rehabilitation of the following projects: Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja;n Benin-Ore-Sagamu dual carriageway; Onitsha-Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway; Kaduna-Maiduguri dual carriageway; East-West Road and the Second Niger Bridge for which a sum of five billion naira has been set aside. These roads cover a distance of 1,664 kilometres and are at various stages of completion. Most of these projects are due for completion and commissioning in this year. As a major turnaround Federal Government also terminated the concessioning agreement with Bi Courtney Company on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The road rehabilitation work is currently been handled by two construction firms and will be completed this year.The Jonathan administration has entered into collaboration with multi-lateral agencies under the Road Sector Development Team (RSDT) scheme.Under this framework, the RSDT is currently implementing road rehabilitation, upgrading and maintenance, institutional strengthening and policy reform, and road safety improvements with the credit from the World Bank; and additional funding from the Africa Development Bank (AfDB). The RSDT in collaboration with multi-lateral agencies rehabilitated/ maintained a total of 257 kilometres of road length in 2012. Two projects under the scheme, the Mokwa-Bida Road and the Akure-Ilesha Road will have their contracts awarded in June. Also, the Ministry of Works is currently working out modalities for the execution of the dualisation of the Keffi-Lafia-Makurdi-Enugu (9th Mile) roads in Nasarawa, Benue and Enugu States with funds from the Export-Import Bank of China. 13. PRESIDENT JONATHAN’s power reforms are working. By July this year, power generation will hit 6,000 megawatts and by December this year it will hit 10,000 megawatts (assurance given last week by Minister of State for Power).In addition, all ten Power Plants under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) scheme to be commissioned by the end of this year. At the moment, majority of them have reached 95 percent completion stage. 14. The ground breaking ceremony of the 2nd Niger Bridge has been performed. More Power Plants are being commissioned. The railway revolution has gathered momentum and the federal government is rolling out more empowerment programmes. THOSE WHO FAULT THE RECORDS OF PRESIDENT JONATHAN ARE THE SPONSORS OF BOKO HARAM WHO SEE NOTHING GOOD IN NIGERIA. THEY WANT TO SPLIT THE COUNTRY WITH THEIR GREED.
