WHY YOU CANT DO WHAT GOD WANTS YOU TO DO. Many of us do find it very difficult serving God and doing what the word of God requires of us. We keep sinning and sinning. Meanwhile, deep within our hearts we just dont like it. We pray for forgiveness and promise God we wont do it again. When we hear messages of heaven and hell we even become frightened and rededicate all to Christ. But all too soon, we find ourselves falling back into the hopeless situations of our sins. Why? You may have prayed and fasted but still sin is controlling you. But this situation is not unique with you. Even the Apostle Paul, lamented on a similar challenge which was in his body. Lets read Romans 7: 14, 24 (NLT) So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I dont really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I dont do it. Instead I do what I hate...Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death. So then, how can you overcome this situation and live for God fully? To do this, you need to know something. David said we were conceived in sin and born in sin (Ps 51:5). Understand that YOU ARE NOT A SINNER BECAUSE YOU COMMIT SIN. Rather, YOU COMMIT SIN BECAUSE YOU ARE A SINNER. Thus, there is something in you that causes you to sin. It cannot be yourself because God created you as a spirit. You are a spirit and your spirit hates sin. However, you are living in a container called FLESH. And it is this flesh that places limitations on you and prevents you from doing what you have to do according to Gods word. So Jesus said the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Galatians 5:17 says For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that ye would. The New Living Translation says the flesh and the spirit are constantly fighting each other so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. Your flesh is your sinful nature. It is sinful and committing sin is the natural habitation of your flesh. That is why sinning is so natural and easy with you. Meanwhile Romans 8:8 says, So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. So you see, the reason you are struggling with sin is because YOU ARE IN THE FLESH. And as long as you are in the flesh you cannot please God and do what Gods Spirit wants you to do. So then, how can you stop living in the flesh in order to please God?
