WICKLIFFE POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN TWO ATTEMPTED ROBBERIES: On Friday, 01-16-2015 at about 9:16 pm, the Wickliffe Police Department received a report of a man wearing a ski mask who entered a gas station located at 29200 Euclid Avenue. The suspect had his hand inside his jacket as if holding a weapon, and he demanded money from the cash register. The store clerk ran to the back room of the gas station and called police as the suspect fled on foot. Officers responded to the area and arrived within two minutes. As officers began checking the area, they noticed a disturbance in the parking lot of a restaurant located at 29280 Euclid Avenue; only a few hundred feet away from the gas station. Officers encountered several restaurant employees in the parking lot who had chased a suspect outside after he demanded money from the restaurant’s cash register while wearing a ski mask. The suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot and found to be Dale W. Burns; age 55, of Willoughby, Ohio. Burns was found to be in possession of a folding pocket knife, black gloves, and a ski mask. Officers reviewed security footage from the gas station, and the suspect can be seen with his hand inside his coat pocket pointing at the store clerk as he demanded cash. Security video still image is attached to this release, along with a booking photo of Burns. Nobody was hurt in either incident, and the suspect did not get any money. Dale Burns is currently being held at the Wickliffe City Jail. He will be arraigned at the Willoughby Municipal Court on 01-20-2015 on two counts of Robbery, both second degree felonies due to the fact that Burns was in possession of a weapon while attempting to commit theft offenses.
