WIKILEAKS PARTY OF AUSTRALIA CONFRONTS TELSTRA OVER THE REVELATION IT IS SHARING OUR PRIVATE EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS WITH THE UNITED STATES AND FBI “The Inquirest” Edward Manning Members of the Wikileaks Party Australia, Kellie Tranter and John Shipton have confronted Telstra and the Australian Privacy Commissioner Tim Pilgrim; after it has been revealed that Telstra has made a secret deal with the United States and FBI to share private information of Telstra account holders. Under the “Network Security Agreement” former Telstra Secretary Douglas Gration signed in 2001, Telstra is required to hold and reveal any and all electronic communications made by its Australian account holders. (details of the agreement can be viewed on The Inquirests “TELSTRA STORING DATA ON BEHALF OF US GOVERNMENT” post; dated the 14th of September 2013) The Wikileaks Party first confronted the Australian Privacy Commissioner on the 16th of July 2013 but was turned away and told the matter must first be raised with Telstra directly before the Commissioner would consider the complaint. On the 12th of this month the Wikileaks Party has sent a letter directly to Telstra to request an explanation or answer to justify why section 36 of the Privacy Act 1988 has been breached, specifically seeking answers to the following questions; 1. Was the 2001 Agreement extended or has the Agreement been substituted with any other agreement since 2001? If so, what period(s) have been covered by such extensions or agreements? 2. Is there any current agreement in place? If so would you please provide us with a copy of the current agreement? 3. What information was provided to United States security agencies under the Agreement or any extensions or substituted agreements? 4. What information is currently being provided under the Agreement or any extensions or substituted agreements? Further details of the Wikileaks Party’s correspondence with the Australian Privacy Commission and with Telstra can be viewed at, https://wikileaksparty.org.au/wikileaks-party-privacy-complaint-to-telstra/
