Every morning well open another door to reveal another mystery creature! Todays animal is a barn owl! Barn owls hunt at night, and despite having very good eyesight, they rely mainly on their hearing to catch their prey. In fact, they have one ear higher than the other to help pinpoint tiny sounds. After a difficult number of years, the number of barn owls in Staffordshire is on the up according to our experts. Staffordshire Barn Owl Action Group (BOAG) who are based at our Wolseley Centre HQ, monitored 263 nest boxes across the county this year, recording 27 pairs of barn owls using the boxes, as well as observing over 90 chicks successfully fledging.
