WIND WARNING IN EFFECT, Halifax Metro and Halifax County West. Wind gusts in excess of 100 km/h are expected tonight. This is a warning that potentially damaging winds are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions, listen for updated statements. A low pressure system over Southern New England is forecast to intensify into a major storm as it moves northward tonight. The centre of the storm is forecast track across Maine this evening, then reach Eastern Quebec tonight and then Labrador Thursday morning. The heavy rain over western sections of the province will spread to central and eastern areas of the province tonight. Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 80 millimetres are expected by Thursday morning. In addition strong southeast winds with gusts in excess of 100 km/h are expected across the province tonight, and gusts to 140 km/h expected in the Lee of the Cape Breton Highlands. These strong winds are expected to produce large seas and pounding surf tonight along the Atlantic coast.
