WINTER MAKING ITS PRESENCE FELT! Evening all! Well due to a lack of daytime heating, our SW change didn’t really eventuate to much this afternoon, with a period of showers that quickly moved off shore. We have a couple of light showers working their way up the east coast currently which may the city, but nothing to worry about at all. Tomorrow we have yet another SW change coming in bring a period of wintry showers to the region before a mostly clear end to the week. The weekend is looking good, with another cold blast popping up in the models for a weeks’ time. Read on for full details. Tomorrow: Expect morning frosts as temperatures to a freezing -3deg tonight. Later in the morning a cold SW change occurs bring a period of wintry showers. These initially affect inland areas before retreating to Banks Peninsula during the latter parts of the afternoon. Initially snow will fall above 500m, but drop to 200m in the evening. Expect highs of 9deg with fresh SW winds which could rise to gale force about exposed parts of Banks Peninsula. Friday: Looks like and active day for Banks Peninsula. Showers will persist throughout much of the day with cold gale force SW winds. Snow will fall too around 200m. It is worth noting that whilst we can’t rule out the odd rogue shower making it into Christchurch, the day should remain mostly dry but cold with fresh SW winds. Expect highs of 10deg. The weekend at this stage is looking very good! With light winds and cool temperatures as a strong high pressure system moves in. Saturday looks to be the day to make your way up to Mt Hutt who have received almost a foot of new snow over the past few days and currently have the best base in the region. Expect light winds and cool temps up there so wrap up warm. We have recently seen an interesting system involving a Tasman low and cold air mass looking to affect the country around the mid to later stage of next week. Ages out of course, but something for us to keep an eye on over the coming days. So, that’s a wrap for now! Have a great night, watch for some ice in the morning. Leighton will be with you bright and early. -Josh
