WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR: Burgeo Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity Ramea Red Bay to LAnse-au-Clair Significant snowfall combined with strong winds will give reduced visibility in blowing snow tonight. This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements. A low pressure system over Central Quebec will gradually track northeastward today to lie near Anticosti Island overnight and continue just south of Labrador on Sunday. Over the Southwest Coast, snow will develop late this afternoon with total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 20 centimetres expected by early Sunday morning. This fresh snowfall will combine with strong southeasterly winds to reduce visibility in blowing snow overnight. Ice pellets are expected to mix with the snow during the early hours of Sunday. Additionally, southeasterly winds will steadily increase tonight with gusts peaking near 120 km/h over the Wreckhouse area and near 100 km/h along the west coast early Sunday morning. Over the Great Northern Peninsula, snow will develop overnight and persist into Sunday. Total snowfall accumulations are not expected to be significant however the fresh snowfall will combine with the strong southeasterly winds to reduce visibility in blowing snow overnight and throughout the day Sunday.
