WINTER WEATHER??? Sorry this post is so late. Here is what I think will happen during the next 24 hours or so. A storm system is expected to gather strength as it goes up the east coast. As this happens, moisture is expected to filter in as upslope rain/sleet/snow for the NC mtns. Depending on elevation, will see different types of precipitation. The favored areas along the TN line and at the highest elevations will see the greatest accumulations of sleet and snow. mix of rain/sleet/freezing rain/snow is possible for this afternoon throughout the NC mtns especially north of I-40. The mix should turn over to predominately snow at the higher elevations and snow or a mix of rain and snow showers tonight at the lower elevations. Away from the TN line, the precipitation is expected to taper off to just possible flurries and/or drizzle later Wednesday as the precipitation becomes more confined to the TN/NC line. Temperatures should stay relatively in the 30s to mid 40s tomorrow. Accumulations: South of I-40 in buncombe and western Mcdowell: no accumulations to maybe as much as 1 inch in the highest elevations. North of I-40: between a dusting to 2 inches in the lower elevations around Asheville, Mars Hill and Weaverville/Barnardsville. Higher Elevations could see up to 3 inches with higher amounts possible in the highest elevations. If anything changes I will let you know!
