WITH OR WITHOUT OFFICIAL TITLE By Ronald Constantino | Tempo | May 11, 2014 HEARTS AND MINDS – As of this writing, President Noynoy Aquino has yet to sign the proclamation naming Nora Aunor and four or five others National Artists. Perhaps, the President has to attend to more important matters. But I dare say that with or without the formal title, Nora is in the hearts and minds of millions of Filipinos already a National Artist. More learned writers have said so, urging P-Noy to proclaim the Superstar National Artist and ignore bashers. Saw Ate Guy at the presscon of “Hustisya,” directed by Joel Lamangan and written by Ricky Lee. Again, I dare say that Joel, Ricky, and actor-mentor Tony Mabesa are protential National Artists. Professor Mabasa is one of the actors of “Hustisya.” • THANK YOU – What was Ate Guy’s reaction? “Kung ibibigay salamat, pero kung hindi naman salamat din.” Typical of the Superstar, always humble. She said that other actors were more deserving. Don’t think so. Nora Aunor is our greatest actress…and an excellent singer, too. The Aunor-Lamangan-Lee triumvirate is hard to top. Think of “Flor Contemplacion,” “Bakit May Kahapon Pa?,” “Muling Umawit ang Puso,” “Sidhi.” • VIDA/CONTRA – Nora plays vida/contravida in “Hustisya,” member of a human-trafficking syndicate, one who is victim and also victimizes. Serving as backdrop is the cruel city that is Manila and the faulty judicial system in the country. Joel and Ricky say that people will see a different Nora Aunor in “Hustisya,” a dark character for the first time. “She will be showing new dimensions in acting that will all the more show how great an actress she is.” • INDIE QUEEN – Nora may well be called the indie queen. Aside from “Hustisya,” she has three other indies this year: Adolf Alix’s “Padre de Familia,” and “Whistle Blower” and Perci Intalan’s “Dementia” Last year, Nora topbilled Mes de Guzman’s “Ang Kuwento ni Mabuti.” Co-stars in “Hustisya”: Rocco Nacino, Rosanna Roces, Romnick Sarmenta, Gardo Versoza, Sunshine Dizon, John Rendez, Jeric Gonzales, Miles Kanapi, Chynna Ortaleza, Jaime Pebanco, Sue Prado, Afi Africa, Tony Mabesa. “Hustisya” is an entry to the 10th Cinemalaya filmfest in August. entertainment.tempo.ph/2014/05/with-or-without-official-title/#.U294N_ldWSo
