WOKEKORO APPROVES WORKSHOP FOR UNN The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has approved two training workshops for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu State. The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro disclosed this while declaring open a one-day Review Meeting of Catchment Chairmen, Commissioners, Secretaries and Training Officers of Local Government Service Commissions under the supervision of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Port Harcourt recently. Chief Wokekoro said that the gesture was aimed at empowering the Department of Public Administration and Local Government to training more staff in order to enhance productivity in the system. The Chairman commended the vital contributions of the University in the training and retraining of staff in the State Local Government Service Commission and assured that the Commission would continue to support the institution. In her speech, the Head of Department of Public Administration and Local Government, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr. (Mrs.) Sylva Agu commended the Rivers State Government for playing a leading role among the ten catchment states in manpower development. Mrs. Agu said that the issue of reduction of cut-of marks for staff seeking admission into the institution would be taken up with the University Authority for consideration. She then lauded the State for being the first to host the meeting outside the University Community. Earlier, the Commissioner in-charge of Education and Training in the State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Jonah Tamuno JP called for the reduction of cut-off marks for staff of the State seeking admission into the in-house training in the Local Government and Public Administration Department in the University. Chief Tamuno explained that the State was seeking for a reduction in cut-off marks to enable more staff to benefit from the programme. He said that the programme has helped number of local government staff to attain higher education up to doctorate degree level.
