WOLF CUB PACK NIGHT PROGRAM - Friday 13th June 2014 7.00pm – Grand Howl (Flag Break jointly with Beavers and Scouts) 7.15pm - NINJA!! - Game (jointly with Cubs and Scouts) The object is to use your hand to touch your opponent’s hand. Players stand in a circle and place their hands together. After a count of “three, two, one” each player must jump backwards and strike a ninja pose. Players then take turns trying to swipe at their opponents’ hands, starting in an anticlockwise direction. An attack must be a single fluid motion, and you can only move to make an attack or dodge an attack. On your turn, instead of attacking, you also have the option to reposition your current stance. All other players must stay frozen. After attacking or dodging, you must freeze. If a player’s hand is touched or they move from their frozen position when not attacking or being attacked, then they are out of the game. The winner is the last player left. A fun game requiring agility, quick reactions and the ability to freeze.’ 7.25pm - BPSA Timeline (Leaders - as part of their Tenderpad Award) Equipment Needed: Pencils Paper Tape Ruler Table Activity: Working together get the Cubs to draw up a pictorial timeline on how they imagine / can best describe the following events (tape pieces of paper together to extend the timeline) – Becky to collect this at the end of the activity and keep them safe please. About Baden Powell & The Wolf Cub Pack & the BPSA February 1857 Robert Stephenson Smyth Powell, later Baden-Powell, was born. 1899 B-P becomes a national hero during the Siege of Mafeking. 1900 Two boys write to tell B-P that thay have formed the Baden-Powell Scouting Society. August 1907 Experimental camp on Brownsea Island May 1909 The British Boy Scoutsare formed. December 1916 Wolf Cub Section started. September 1970 The Baden-Powell Scouts Association breaks from the The Boy - Scout Association, with Lady Baden-Powells support and her gifting the use of the Baden-Powell name. Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, (22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941), also known as B-P or Lord Baden-Powell, was a lieutenant-general in the British Army, writer, founder of the Scout Movement and first Chief Scout of The Boy Scouts Association. During one of his travels as a Military officer, he came across a large string of wooden beads, worn by the Zulu king Dinizulu, which was later incorporated into the Wood Badge training programme he started after he founded the Scouting Movement. On his return from Africa in 1903, Baden-Powell found that his military training manual, Aids to Scouting, had become a best-seller, and was being used by teachers and youth organisations. Following his involvement in the Boys Brigade as Brigade Secretary and Officer in charge of its scouting section, with encouragement from his friend,William Alexander Smith, Baden-Powell decided to re-write Aids to Scouting to suit a youth readership. In August 1907 he held a camp on Brownsea Island to test out his ideas. About twenty boys attended: eight from local Boys Brigade companies, and about twelve public school boys, mostly sons of his friends. At the 5th World Scout Jamboree in 1937, Baden-Powell gave his farewell to Scouting, and retired from public Scouting life. 22 February, the joint birthday of Robert and Olave Baden-Powell, continues to be marked as Founders Day by Scouts and Thinking Day by Guides to remember and celebrate the work of the Chief Scout and Chief Guide of the World. In his final letter to the Scouts, Baden-Powell wrote: ...I have had a most happy life and I want each one of you to have a happy life too. I believe that God put us in this jolly world to be happy and enjoy life. Happiness does not come from being rich, nor merely being successful in your career, nor by self-indulgence. One step towards happiness is to make yourself healthy and strong while you are a boy, so that you can be useful and so you can enjoy life when you are a man. Nature study will show you how full of beautiful and wonderful things God has made the world for you to enjoy. Be contented with what you have got and make the best of it. Look on the bright side of things instead of the gloomy one. But the real way to get happiness is by giving out happiness to other people. Try and leave this world a little better than you found it and when your turn comes to die, you can die happy in feeling that at any rate you have not wasted your time but have done your best. Be Prepared in this way, to live happy and to die happy — stick to your Scout Promise always — even after you have ceased to be a boy — and God help you to do it. 7.45pm - CORNERS (Game for Beavers & Cubs) The four corners of the field are named after specific events (above). When a name or phrase is called out, the Beavers run to that particular corner. The last one there is out. (Just pick four of the events listed in the above timeline for this). Simple, effective and fun!’ 7.55pm - Gather at Flag for Grand Howl Closing and home
