“WOMEN IN MOUNTAINS- CONTINUITY & CHANGE” TWO DAYS NATIONAL SEMINAR 28-29 November, 2013 Dept. of Sociology School of Social Sciences, Uttarakhand Open University Circular Dear Colleague, We are happy to inform you that the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences, Uttarakhand Open University is organizing a ICSSR sponsored two days National Seminar on 28-29 November 2013 at Nainital. It gives us pleasure in inviting you to participate in this academic event and share your valuable research findings with other scholars to enrich the existing knowledge in the field of gender studies. The objective of this Seminar is to bring together the scholars who are engaged in higher research and to share their research experiences and outcome with the fraternity. It is aimed that the seminar will contribute to understand the status of women in wider context in the mountains in general and Uttarakhand in particular and explore the possible strategies which can reduce rural poverty and women drudgery in general. The seminar also aims to bring the issues of women on centre stage of development policies in particular in the mountains mountain region as they are the backbone of family economy in these regions. This seminar will provide a platform to discuss the key elements of systems failure in terms of gender constraints, which are based on the socially-constructed and historically developed role of women in patriarchal society. We intend to explore various aspects of sustainable development with a gender perspective, which will illuminate how female contributions can be better realized at present and how strategies can be developed for meeting the needs of future generations. In view of the above, the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences, Uttarakhand Open University has proposed a two days National Seminar on the theme Women in Mountains: Continuity and Change. The seminar will have various sessions on following broad themes. 1. Status of Women in Mountain Regions: Current Scenario 2. Empowerment of Women in Mountain Regions: Issues & Challenges 3. Welfare Policies & Women in Mountain Regions: Situational Analysis 4. Recent Disaster in Himalayan Region & its impact on women 5. Open Panel However you may also suggest other relevant theme which may contribute to archive the objectives of seminar. Please email us a line of intimation that you intend to participate in this seminar, as it will help us in planning in advance for logistic arrangements to make your stay comfortable during the event. DELEGATE FEE The delegate fee has been set as: Rs. 600/ PhD students: Rs. 500/ Registration fee will be paid at the time of registration but the registration form will have to be submit on or before 15th November. The delegate fee includes accommodation, all meals during the seminar days and a seminar kit. No TA will be paid to participants. RESEARCH PAPERS The last date for submission of abstract is 10th November, 2013. Please submit the full text of your paper both in hard (two copies) and soft copy by 15th November, 2013. The use of bold is to be avoided. Those figures mentioned from other references will be in regular script. Italics: Use italics for all non-English words (like Upanishada, Tola et cetera) as well as for names of books, reports and other documents quoted. The usage of other Indian names/terms should be in regular script. Quotations: Single quotation marks should be used. The beginning and end of all quotations should be clearly marked. Figures and Tables: Line drawings, maps, graphs and photographs are all considered figures. They should not exceed 20 x 16 cm in size. Each figure must be cited in the text and numbered accordingly.
