WORD! Dan Savage has spoken about this, too. A lot of times people will accuse queer folks of acting more butch/femme (i.e., opposite of what would be their traditionally assumed gender roles) after coming out. It is really amazing that it hasnt even crossed the minds of these ignorant str8 folk that the person they saw before was the one putting on a role and the person they see now, post-closet, is their true self.
