WORD Today 09/10/14 1Cor 7:25-31 Lk 6:20-26 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied; but woe to you who are full now for you shall hunger. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh; but woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. These are some of the blessed attitudes and their opposites that Jesus speaks of in todays Gospel. As with everything Jesus says it is all so true. Life indeed is constant change. Wealth can turn to dearth, fitness to illness, and cheers to tears in the blink of an eye. Jesus mindset is clarified by St. Paul (in the First Reading) as the attitude of detachment from the passing things of the world - to hold good times as opportunities to thank and grow in love with God, and to let bad times help us grow in our faith and hope in God to provide what we truly need. Real Blessing is the rock-solid security and peace of having Jesus by our side.
