WORD Today 10/16/14 Eph 1:1-10 Lk 11:47-54 In the Gospel, Jesus tells the Jews, Woe to you who build the memorials of the prophets whom your fathers killed. Consequently, you bear witness and give consent to the deeds of your ancestors, for they killed the prophets and you do the building. We blame the Jews for killing Jesus. But are we any better than the Jews if we keep Jesus entombed in beautiful altars and shrines, while we continue their resistance to His Word? A voiceless statue is nicer than a living prophet who can tell us our errors and sins. A statue cannot tell us to be holy and without blemish before God. (Eph 1:4, 1st Reading) Its very good to put up an altar at home to honor our Savior, but much more important is to go out with Him. Jesus is very much alive in the Holy Spirit as our personal brother who is always by our side and whom we should consult and listen to all through the day.
