WORDS OF WISDOM AND TRUTH FROM Congressman Rep. Mick Mulvaney.........November 20, 2014 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Mulvaney released the following statement: “Like many people, I just watched the President’s speech regarding immigration. It is difficult to summarize my response. First and foremost, I am profoundly disappointed, and a little angry, that the President would do this now. We just had a an election a few weeks ago. While some people think that the message of that election was that we need to work together, and others think it was that we need to push back harder against the President, absolutely no one would suggest that the message was that we want the President to act unilaterally on immigration reform. The new Congress hasn’t even been sworn in yet. I am at a loss as to why he wouldn’t give the lawmakers elected by the people in this country two weeks ago a chance to work on this issue. Secondly, regardless of how people feel about immigration, I hope they will join me in rejecting the manner by which the President has chosen to behave. This country is governed by the rule of law, not the rule of one man. The President’s excuse — that Congress has not acted — is pathetic and insulting. His party had complete and total control of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives for two solid years, and completely ignored immigration reform. Furthermore, no one who has ever read the Constitution could reasonably suggest that the Congress failing to act somehow magically gives the President the ability to make law. The President’s excuse is an insult to the intelligence of the American people. Finally, it is incumbent upon the Congress — both the House and the Senate, and both Republicans and Democrats — to act to defend the Constitution and the rule of law. We need to see details on exactly how he purports to do what he says he will do — the President said absolutely nothing about how he was going to implement his plan —before we can know the best way to resolve this Constitutional challenge. And I absolutely reject the concept floated by some that Congress simply cannot do anything.”
