WORSHIP SONG for THURSDAY - I know nobody really likes to talk about it but its all around us, everyday and in every society, nation, culture and place on planet earth. Open up any newspaper anywhere in any language and there will be mention of it and probably a section fo the paper devoted to it. Its happening right now as you read this and its a universal truth that every single human being that has ever lived will experience it. There is really no escape from the reality of it because its part of life. And its not only human beings that experience it, its every living thing! Have you figured out what Im speaking of? Its death! There you go, Ive said it! Every living thing eventually dies. But can I state it bluntly? You and I will eventually die! I know its not the most encouraging thought for todays worship song but at times we have to confront the grim realities of life so that we may learn from them and prepare for them. And I find it strange that people prepare for almost everything but death. They prepare for vacations, for taxes, for recreation, for transportation, for education, work, family, events - we prepare for all those things and more but for death.....we dont want to think about it. But the Bible speaks much about it and speaks plainly. The Bible tells us that all will die and that there is a life after the process of death. Its not a temporary life but an eternal one and it will either be spent in heaven or hell. Again, no one wants to talk about it but we must and we must prepare. Jesus Himself said, What profit will there be if a person gains the whole world and loses their own soul? What shall a person give in exchange for their own soul? Jesus said that to state the importance of preparing for eternity. And He told us exactly how to prepare when He said, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Surely I tell you that unless you are born again, you will never see the Kingdom of God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Its profound but very easy. We all die. Jesus is the way to escape everlasting separation from God. Being born spiritually and believing in Christ as Savior is the only preparation sufficient for death. Are you prepared? Are you ready to meet God? If you were to die tonight, where would you spend the eternity that you will surely face? Sobering questions but necessary ones. Please consider it seriously and please get ready because as somber as this might appear, your day and my day could be closer than we think.
