WOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR PAST? What if we could, turn back ole’ time With present knowledge, future’s rhyme Would you hastily change your past With gained hindsight, of times cast? Would you give up all tender moments Filled with bliss and time’s atonements? To avoid painful pitfalls, of past events By lingering scars, of maturing intents What about past friends, in exchange For unknown’s memory, rearranged? Giving up journies, hilarious and sad Erasing the ability to recall, joys had Reminiscing, laughing profusely hard Nose milk flying, being caught off guard Recalling silly things, childhood thrills Life’s frozen moments, visiting at will Fishing all day, catching only a cold But leaving with great stories, as told Or all night, deep discussions about life Naive urban cares and pseudo strife Past decisions made, easily cast away In hopes of a better path, of new array Like broken things, then young in error Hiding from momma’ return, in terror Or childhood friends, huddled in silence Until snickering broke, our tight alliance Sleepovers, kitchen raids, scared to death Busted by pilfered cookies, on our breath Removing those embarrassing times Splitting pants and gestational chimes Awkward first kisses, passing of notes Gem treasures of past, richly emotes What if we could, turn back ole’ time With present knowledge future’s rhyme Would you so hastily change your past Discarding memories, so rich and vast? - Christopher
