WOW. As well as lots of criticism and insults, I admit Ive had a surprising number of people message me recently to express gratitude simply for attempting to make a balanced argument, and inform some of the political realities they seem all too keen to forget. However, I just received this from an old friend and colleague who shall remain nameless: A personal thank you to you Alex McNamara. When the world is blinkered, lost and confused, wildly looking round for answers and throwing blame and judgement, I thank you for your honest, researched, informative, gentle, empathetic voice. I dont think I can genuinely take credit for these things, but the simple fact that ANYONE has felt supported by what Ive had to say, means a great deal. Thank YOU. Despite all you haters out there who are bored by political debate and discussion (perhaps even believe social media is not the place for it), would rather bury your heads in the sand and deride me or anyone else for talking about things that really matter.... if even one person changes their opinion and/or feels educated by something Ive had to say; if even one person is given cheer to know that not all are blind to media manipulation, that not all are condemning them: I have succeeded in what I set out to do. Hopefully soon this humanitarian crisis will be over, and we can all go back to daft videos of cats, and old people rapping. Because I like those too. Sadly, it isnt (and will never be) that simple.
