WOY CRITERIA: Every year when INDIA New England News announces the list of Outstanding 20 Women, our team is flooded with inquiries regarding the editorial criteria. It is always challenging to narrow down from the pool of hundreds of nominations to 50 and then to 30 and eventually to 20. Although there are many criteria such as qualifications, professional and personal accomplishments, community service and charity work, our editorial team looks at three main factors that we call: I-DO or Impact, Diversity and Ownership. IMPACT: Outstanding-20 must have either made a positive impact or has a huge potential to make an impact locally, globally, at work, in the community, research, art, culture or in any field. DIVERSITY: The editorial team recommends diversity, representing various disciplines and expertise. We also encourage youth role models. OWNERSHIP: We recommend outstanding women take leadership or ownership of a project, an idea, research, service, charity, business or in any field they are focused on. Impact and Ownership are also important criteria that are traditionally used by the independent panel of judges at the Awards Gala to select the Woman of the Year.
