WRC RALLYE DE FRANCE FIGHTING TALK: SELECTION OF QUOTES FROM THE WRC DRIVERS AHEAD OF THIS WEEK’S RALLYE DE FRANCE – ALSACE (3 – 5 OCTOBER). Mads Ostberg, Citroen DS3: “It’s my favourite event on this surface.” “I have competed in all four editions of the rally since it moved to Alsace and it’s my favourite event on this surface. We have driven in the dry and wet and I must admit I really liked it when it was very slippery, in the rain. It’s interesting to try and find some grip when the roads become muddy. I had the chance to try out the new tyres in testing and they offer greater performance on wet and muddy roads. In dry conditions, there isn’t much difference. Our aim is to improve on the rhythm we had in Germany, to score big points.” Robert Kubica, Ford Fiesta RS: “Again we will be experiencing a lot of new roads.“ This will be my second time at Rallye de France but only three stages are exactly the same as last year – so again we will be experiencing a lot of kilometres on new roads. We had two days of testing last week. Michelin have introduced new soft and hard compound tyres and I am looking forward to seeing how they work in proper rally conditions. From the test we saw that the feeling and the way in which the tyres work is quite different, but I like it, so let’s see what happens.” Jari-Matti Latvala, Volkswagen Polo R: “I am now determined to score my first win on asphalt“ “I have a score to settle with asphalt rallies, as the rally in Germany was disappointing. Having come so close in Germany, I am now determined to score my first win on asphalt. I can still become World Champion this year, but I don’t really think that that is a realistic possibility. For that to happen, an awful lot would have to go wrong for Sébastien, whilst everything would have to be perfect for me. One thing is certain, however: as long as there is still a mathematical chance, I will carry on fighting and do my very best. You never know what might happen.” Elfyn Evans, Ford Fiesta RS: “I can’t wait to attack these stages” “This is an event that holds a lot of special memories for me. In 2012 it was where I won the FIA WRC Academy and last year we were second in the WRC 2 category. I can’t wait to attack these stages with a world rally car for the first time. The roads themselves are faster and more open than the ones in Germany, but the weather and the conditions can be quite similar. We had a good run last time out on asphalt, so I hope we can deliver a similar performance this week.” Dani Sordo, Hyundai i20: “I feel we’re well prepared“ “I really like Rallye de France. It is an extremely fast event and the surface changes frequently which makes it technically demanding. The weather plays an important role but I like both dry and wet weather conditions. I have shown some good speed here in the past and with some very good results. We tested the Hyundai i20 WRC on tarmac before the rally and I feel we’re well prepared so we will be doing all we can to score a strong result this weekend.”
