.WRR recently took four animals from the Cypress Zoo in Benton, Louisiana. The zoo decided to eliminate several exhibits, leaving several animals in need of permanent placement, as they could not be released back into the wild. WRR is always happy when we can help provide permanent care in large natural habitats to any unreleasable animals such as these who recently came to WRR. Even so, we consider it unfortunate that zoos use animals as they do resulting in situations such as this. WRR is now providing care for a striped skunk and permanent care for a sheep and 2 coatimundis. The skunk is still being cared for in WRR’s hospital so that he can be closely monitored by animal caretaker staff while he transitions to eating a more natural diet and then to being outdoors. The two coatimundis were recently introduced to the other coatimundis who call WRR home and are having a great time exploring their large, new enclosure. The ram is now enjoying himself among the flock who free roam the acreage available to them at the sanctuary. Here are few pictures of the animals as they are enjoying their new environment at WRR.
