WUC TO EXPEDITE ISSUANCE OF BILLS Water bills are a problem because they are printed in Gaborone only, an official of the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Mr. Lopang Seporo, said in Tutume on Monday. Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, the Honourable Edwin Batshu in his Nkange constituency, Mr. Seporo said after printing in Gaborone, the bills were then sorted and sent to various parts of Botswana. Mr. Seporo, who is a water superintendent at WUC, said the corporation was planning to have the bills printed in Palapye and Francistown so that they could reach consumers on time. He urged Tutume residents to visit his office and ask for their water bills. The residents should also update their records at WUC offices in order to make billing easier. Mr. Matante Moseki, chairperson of the Tutume Umbrella Village Development Committee, had complained that residents were expected to pay for water yet they did not receive bills. He had also complained about leaks from pipes throughout the village. In some cases, stand pipes were disconnected and residents had no water for consumption, resulting in the less privileged being hard-hit. However, Mr. Seporo promised that WUC would fix the leaks. He explained that the ordinary stand pipes had been replaced by pre-paid ones. The less privileged will receive P40 tokens to fetch water from pre-paid public stand pipes. (BOPA)
