WWE 2014 REVIEW: May Highlights - Daniel Bryan successfully defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Kane at Extreme Rules. That wasnt the big highlight though. The highlight (or lowlight) happened a week later. After rumours swirled that Daniel Bryan had gotten injured, he announced on Raw that he was legitimately injured, and confirmed that he needed surgery on his neck and perhaps shoulder. Despite saying at the time that he wouldnt mind if he was stripped of the title, WWE announced on May 26th six days prior to Payback, that there would be an announcement (or ultimatum) of Daniel Bryan as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. - Extreme Rules PPV. Featured a match of the year contender between The Shield and Evolution, Bad News Barrett winning the Intercontinental Championship after 5-6 months off injured, and Bray Wyatt defeating John Cena in a steel cage match thanks to a 6 year old singing child. - Connor The Crusher passes away. R.I.P. - WWE signs a new deal with NBC Universal. At a time when the stock plummeted, and investors were calling for Vince McMahons head. - NXT Takeover. Second live special of NXT held on the WWE Network. Sami Zayn stole the show, despite losing to Tyler Breeze, and Charlotte and Natalya had the best divas match since Trish Stratus & Mickie James at WrestleMania 22, or Trish Stratus & Lita that main evented Raw in late 2004. - Brad Maddox fired as Raw GM. He hasnt been seen since.
