WWE promotes fan attack on Orton: In a bizarre move WWE are promoting a story about how Randy Orton was attacked by a fan during yesterday’s live event in Cape Town, South Africa. A video shows Orton celebrating after his match with Big E. Langston and when he’s on the turnbuckle a fan enters the ring and appears to low blow him. A statement on WWE says… “The matter is currently under investigation by the local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton’s injuries are unknown at this time.” This is odd for a number of reasons. Firstly Orton sells the punch and falls off the turnbuckle like it was part of the show. Then in an unprecedented move WWE are pushing the incident on the homepage and have even uploaded the video on to the WWE Youtube channel. They also refer to possible injuries like a storyline – why would you promote that a top star could have been injured by some random fan? Could this be a Santino-esque introduction of a new foreign wrestler? If it is legit it’s possible somebody thought promoting it would discourage things like this from happening in the future, but you could also argue that it would create copycat attacks as well. Of course there’s also the possibility that it’s just a cynical move to get Youtube and website hits by exploiting a real incident. Was Jesse Sorensen’s release a work?: With the third installment of TNA’s August 1st Warning video it’s dawned on me that the mystery man could be Jesse Sorensen. As noted yesterday people have reversed the voice morphing on the video to reveal a southern accent, which Jesse of course has. Also although it would appear the silhouette figure is bald, side views show that not to be the case. Without getting too armchair investigator, the ears also certainly look like Sorensen’s. Could TNA be working us with his recent release? Other possibilities include Hardcore Holly who appeared on the Hardcore Justice PPV, and Adam Pearce who tweeted about August 1st and was on Gut Check. RAW audience drops: This week’s episode of WWE RAW on the USA Network drew an average audience of 3,755,000 viewers, down slightly from last week. The show did hours of 3,622,000, 3,896,000, and3,746,000. Would Maxine return to WWE?: Former NXT Diva Maxine won the WWE poll asking fans which former Diva they’d like to return. She got 68%, beating Stacy Keibler, Trish Stratus and Kelly Kelly. Of course online numbers can be manipulated, but there’s no indication that Maxine herself promoted the poll in any way. She wrote on Twitter… “I would love to show people what I can really do!” Maxine quit the company in June last year because she wasn’t getting any wrestling time and felt it just wasn’t worth it. youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=v_4JA-ulmjk Source: wrestlingtruth/ #PMC
